Now I’m letting you know what you need to survive the 10 day green smoothie cleanse without dying lol.
I am currently on day 4 of my 2nd attempt and not only do I feel fabulous, I can visually see that I have lost weight from that dreaded mommy belly area!

The 10 day green smoothie cleanse by J.J. Smith has actually been around since 2014, when she published her book, 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse: Lose Up to 15 Pounds in 10 Days!
A nutritionist and dietitian, J.J. developed this cleanse as a jumpstart to losing weight while detoxing your body. Some of the benefits of the green smoothie cleanse are:
- increased energy
- better sleep
- clearer mind
- cravings reduced
- weight loss
- reduced bloating
- better digestion
I can 1000% attest that I have experienced all of these!
Can green smoothies help me lose weight?
J.J. has been on the Dr. Oz show and if you can find her sugar-curbing smoothie, her fat burner smoothie, her energy smoothie, and her anti-aging smoothie on their site.
However, if you are truly serious about weight loss, you need a weight loss plan and that is what the 10 day green smoothie cleanse provides. Like the title says you can lose up to 15 pounds in 10 days!

If you have been following me you know that I have been trying multiple ways to detox my body and restoring hormonal imbalances. I have completed a thyroid treatment, colon cleanse, and candida cleanse in my journey towards restoring my health.
I firmly believe that many of the symptoms we struggle with of weight gain, anxiety, depression, mental fog, etc. can easily be reversed through holistic and simple means such as the green smoothie cleanse.
Green smoothies are chocked full of necessary nutrients! The ingredients in the green smoothies are greens which contain amino acids and protein, ground flaxseed (healthy omega 3 fat), and fruit (good carbs).

Smith’s green smoothie cleanse, I have gathered a list of items I believe are necessary or helpful in completing the cleanse successfully. This is not a comprehensive list, but simple tricks and tips I have discovered when doing the green smoothie cleanse!

What You Need to Start the Green Smoothie Cleanse
Step 1: Set yourself up for success!
Allow yourself at minimum 3 days to gather all the items necessary for the cleanse. Some items will need to be ordered and you want to make sure you have all items necessary.

Mindset is everything!!!! Tell your friends your goal and invite them to join you on your weight loss journey!
Get your hubby to be your motivational partner! Post on social media!! This helps to keep you accountable when you feel like quitting!
Finally join the green smoothie cleanse official facebook group where thousands of women are doing the same thing!
Ask questions, check out delicious recipes, and be inspired by others’ stories!
Step 2: Buy the book and choose your cleanse:
You must take this step as you cannot succeed without it! J.J. Smith’s book provides so much helpful information on how the detox works, answers a lot of questions you may have, and is chocked full of recipes, testimonials, & tips!
This is where you will get your green smoothie recipes from. It is very important that you follow the recipes exactly if you are a newbie!!!
Do not attempt to bumble through google and try and figure it out. It will not work. I have personally seen people try this and fail.
You can get the book in as little as one day through Amazon.
Step 3: Buy/Beg/Barter for your essentials
Since I love to organize this was the most fun part for me. There are are few essentials you must have to guarantee success.
How can I make my green smoothies smooth?
You will need a blender.
First things first, you need an awesome blender to make your green smoothies nice and smooth.
- A blender
- Purpose: Blending the green smoothies
You must make certain you have one that will work well.
I believe you can make the smoothies using a normal blender, but I discovered my Ninja blender was just too large to make the smoothies nice and smooth.
On my first time trying the green smoothie cleanse, I tried this Farberware blender because I was trying to take the cheaper route. I give it a 6 out 10 stars as it did make the smoothies.
However, it did not pulverized the greens to that much desired consistency and I had to force myself to not gag over the distinct taste of ground up greens.
I didn’t know better, I thought that’s how the green smoothies were supposed to taste!
Buy a personal blender for your green smoothie.
My husband bought this Nutribullet personal blender and when I made my first smoothie, I couldn’t believe the difference!!!!!
It pulverized the greens to waterlike consistency.
Now the smoothies are deliciously yummy with only a slight taste of the greens, even my 3 year old loves the smoothies!!!
I absolutely love a good deal, but in this case it was not worth it being a cheapskate!
Important: Whatever blender you choose make sure it’s above 1000 watts! More suggestions below!
You will need the right containers to store snacks and your green smoothies.
- Purpose: For storing the smoothies and snacks
If you buy the Nutribullet personal blender, your smoothie is made in a cup and you can simply put on the lid and go! However, the recipe makes 3 smoothies and the cup is rather large.
If you are at home you can place the cup in the refrigerator and simple pour out into another cup as needed.
If you work, it’s much easier and nicer to separate into individual containers and pre-portion your smoothie!
Here’s a fan favorite:
Fro zip Disposable Drink Containers– You can buy 50 of them for really cheap, comes with straws, and they can be frozen so your smoothies are always cold at work!
These are another fan favorite! Buy them in the 16 0z. size. Would recommend for home use unless you have a way to keep them cold at work.
Snack Containers to Use for the Green Smoothie Cleanse
Most of the snacks I was able to throw in small to medium sized plastic baggies!
However, you will feel more motivated if you organize your treats in cute bento boxes or portion snack containers.
Snacks tend to get messy and look unappetizing when you just fling them in a baggie.
You want to feel like you WANT to eat them!
What snacks can I eat on the 10 day green smoothie cleanse?
You may not need portion snack containers if you are a stay at home mom, however I do recommend pre-portioning your snacks and keeping them separate
This helps to avoid temptation!
Here is a list of approved snacks that can be combined in many ways to make them delicious! Check the official FB group for more ideas!
- Raw, crunchy veggies
- Boiled eggs
- Garden of Life (organic) bar
- Low-sodium tuna
- Rx bar
- Unsalted nuts/seeds
- Vegan mayo
- unsweetened peanut butter
Important Tip: Snacks should not be eaten with green smoothies but 2-3 hours after!
Step 4: Buy your snacks, tea, protein powder, & ground flaxseed.
See the list above for the snacks you can have. You can also check her book for snack ideas. However her official FB group will give you the most ideas as members share their treats!
You will need to purchase a detox tea, this the brand recommended and that I use:
You can also find detox tea at health food stores.
I personally do not use a protein powder because I do not feel the need for it. However if you work out you may want to consider the Nutiva Hemp Protein powder which is recommended. This powder is high in fats and protein and tastes good! A scoop of protein powder can be added to your smoothie to help you feel full longer.
Use a flaxseed like the one below. Make sure it is organic and ground!
Step 5: Buy your fruit, greens, & nuts
You can of course buy your fruit, greens, and nuts at the same time you purchase your tea, stevia, snacks, and protein powder.
However I mentioned buying the others first if you will be ordering online. You don’t want your greens going bad on you while you wait for your purchases to come in!
Be sure to follow the book’s recommendations and purchase organic if you can.
If you cannot, remove the pesticides and waxes as best as you can by soaking in a bowl with 10% white vinegar, scrubbing and then rinsing with clean water.
It’s important to buy organic to avoid as much toxins as possible.
Step 6: Prep Your Smoothies & Snacks
- Place your snacks in the appropriate pre-portioned containers or baggies.
- If you work, you can make your smoothie recipe the night before, place in the freezer using these bags or simply leave in the refrigerator overnight in your to go container.
- Some people prep their entire smoothies recipes by placing the appropriate ingredients in freezer bags and taking them out when needed.
- However remember fresh not frozen is always best!
Step 7: Start your 10 day green smoothie cleanse now!
Remember to be kind to yourself. If you simply cannot stop coffee cold turkey, (I couldn’t!), then slowly wean yourself off.
If you simply must take a bite of your kid’s birthday cake, try your best to take a wee nibble and move on!
Just remember you are trying to detoxify your body so that you can lose weight for effectively. Don’t think you have to start by doing the full cleanse!
I’m completing the modified cleanse right now, this is day 6 and I’ve lost 3.4 lbs!
And this is the first day I will be weaning myself off coffee completely! I firmly believe that I would have lost more weight by now if not for the sugar and cream in my coffee.
It’s amazing how one daily choice affects your weight!
